evacuations at Mt Kelud
october 16 2007
In Indonesia the Mount Kelud, a 5,679-foot high vulcano located on Java island, about 385 miles east of the capital, Jakarta, is about to erupt.
All over the world vulcanos in populated areas are monitored, either by equipment and direct observance or equipment only.
There is a clear system of warnings.
The last week the warning level of the vulcano has risen and now it's placed on the highest alert level.
That means that all people living on the sloped are ordered to evacuate, in this case all people living within 6 miles are told to go.
30,000 people !!!
Mount Kelud is dangerous. It's one of the most active vulcanos of Indonesia.
The last eruption, at 1990, destroyed about 100 villages and killed 5,160 people.
Even though 30,000 people are told to leave their home, that doesn't mean they all will leave. People don't want to leave their lifestock without care. The few animals are their only possession. Others are afraid theives will take the little amount of belongings they have.
their rather risk their live than loose everything.
So may things on earth are going on that need our attention and care.
