selective perception

march 12 2008

It's amazing how fast some people can react on some mails and "never see" other mails.

I wrote yesterday about bullying.

His teacher wrote back in no time.

There was no need for him to do the presentation, because the bullying was very bad indeed.
They would take action today, and she hoped he would enjoy his trip to London.

I wrote back.
Thanking her ofcourse.

But also telling her that he's not looking forward to the trip.

I also wrote down some comments on the way the last paper of my autistic son was valued.

Isn't it strange she didn't see those comments at all?

Really, some people have only selective perception. They take good compliments but ignore the comments made against them.

Have you read the book "Nineteen Minutes" by Jodi Picoult. It touches very strongly on the subject of bullying-and the type of violence that can erupt from that. It's a disturbing read, but one that I think is necessary for ANYONE that works in a school. Perhaps you should recommend it to the teacher in question-perhaps then she won't just dismiss the problem like she is.
