CHILD SOLDIER
Let me rest at the sidewalk of life for a while
make nature embrace me
with silence and sun
He passed me twice
almost without noticing me
before he put his stengun at my head
the frailty of excistence
trembling at the horizon
I was sitting there
not moving
only the silence
and his tweaking shoe
I looked at him
saw the world reflecting in his eye
and me
a child now he passed on
.

Chills, I got chills reading this - and shuddered.
I can think of no other word - chilling. Absolutely. Read it several times and each time my breath stopped.
Sad in its truth.
The first paragraph was beautiful. I definitely wasn't expecting what came after.
i recently read a book called
a long way gone by ismael beah.. it is the memoirs of a boy soldier... what an amazingly unspeakable hardship this is on our world....
