Summertime.......

may 10 2008

Another far too hot day here.

Spring is skipped, it's full summer.
Even with the window open during the night I kept turning and turning. What a night temperature!!!

I was glad to walk into the garden early in the morning.
It's like I can see everything grow by the minute.

The strawberries are flowering already, the blossoms have disappeared from the appletrees,
the tulips are gone.

Unbelievable!!

I was so caught up with all the saturday chores that i didn't notice my breathing was going worse.

Well, it can only go so much worse untill it's hard work to get some oxygen in.

So I got an asthma attack...
Haven't had one as bad for a couple of years.

Luckily I had my meds downstairs, so I took the maximum once, and a bit more....

In hospitals they go even higher with the dosage, and I had no intention to be at the hospital during mother's day. (Although the food is good then, LOL!)

After some time I could breathe better.. Phew!!!

Feminists for Clinton or women for women?

may 10 2008

While Hillary Clinton is trying to invest even more money to lure people into voting for her, and feminists think that Hillary will realise all their dreams (or at least some of them), there are other matters that should catch the attention of these women.

Instead of thinking that women should vote for women, they should care more for people who really need assistance.

Do you know that each minute somewhere on the world a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth?
Isn't it a shame that the majority of those women, blindly claiming that America needs a female president, don't know that in Africa 1 in 22 delivering sisters of them die?

When all these women would start a fight to save these women, maybe they'll better the world in a far better way than that Clinton becomes president.

I was called by a former collegue

may 9 2008

Isn't interesting that at times the same subjects pop-up over and over again?

First I was called by a former collegue.
We used to work at a hospital, but that's half a lifetime ago.

It was nice to hear his voice.
Turned out a mutal friend mentioned a while ago that I'd adviced to refer one of his clients to a drug rehab in Malibu.
So he wanted to know which one.

We talked a bit about our children and plans to have a reunion, then it was time for him to leave for an appointment.

A few minutes later a mother called about her autistic son.
The psychiatrist finally decided to stop with Risperdal.
She was worried, because her son was having strange eye movements.

Risperdal isn't addictive, but one can say that the brain gets used to it and needs slow withdrawel to prevent withdrawel effects.
4 says (!!!) was clearly not slow enough for her son.

I was able to refer her to the clinic at the emergence hour, so her son could be checked.

I'm sure the subject of alcohol and drugwithdrawal will turn up the next days too.

Fighting body-weight and finding improvement of acne and wrinkles.

may 8 2008

Loosing weight is a real challenge.
My experience is that all those wonderdiets only create more problems after a while.

I know quite some people who eat far more healthy than their ancestors, exercise regularly, and still weight more than the earlier generations.

So maybe our ancestors used certain ingredients more than we do.
Following this chain of thought some people took a close look and made a list of 10 ingredients which are known for their healthy influence.
They bundled these working elements in a pill.
Barley, Acai,Cayenne Pepper, Buckweat, flaxseed and some other ingredients are all part of: Orovo.

When people started using the pill they experienced not only weightloss, but also discovered a tremendous improvement of their acne, and even of their wrinkles.
Isn't this a great and welcome extra?

I wonder if anyone of my readers has experience with this product?

I took my son's meds

may 3 2008

It was early. Far too early for a saturday.

The girls were almost ready to go for a day at the swimmingpool.
Their father was supposed to accompany them... and he was not ready.

He forgot to tie one shoe, and his mind hopped from one thing to another.

So I had to lead them all out!
Tell the girls to take their bags, food, drink.
Did they have the bathingsuits? Towel?
Did dad tie his shoelace by now?

Etc etc.

Then my autistic son came down, telling me he needed his meds.

So I took one of his pills, gave one of the girls paper handkerchiefs, told one of the other boys his alarm was going off, and...did he tie his shoelaces?

In the kitchen someone was able to get her arm just ahead of me, grasping a bag of bread, I was asked what we were going to eat for dinner.

I grasped a mug, put water in it, got another question, saw that the shoelace still wasn't tied and swallowed the pill.

Two dark eyes stared at me.
"You took my pill."

They all went silent.
Finally!

So I ordered the girls out,
told their father to go on behaving like an attention-hungry child and just drop face flat on the gardenpath over the untied shoe,
told the boy who relies on the alarm to warn ma to warn him that he'd better silence the thing and have a shower and calmly told my autistic son that mom's never do a thing like that and that it was a joke.

He got his pill and went upstairs.

I quickly looked up the interactions with others meds and found out the pill is bad for diabetics.
Great, I'm one.
I took notice of the other side-effects, which didn't occur in my system (yet), because I'm still alive.

It's more that 12 hours ago now.
My arm was hurting this morning and it still does.
I haven't become more social, the effect the pill has on my son.

The only effect the pill had is that I feel silly.......

Letting go of unwanted emotions

may 1 2008

Some people ask me how I manage to live a life that isn't fullfilling.

How I deal with 4 very complicated children, who don't feel at home in the world.
How I deal with the fact that I can't do what I want so very much. Instead of travelling the world, I can hardly leave the house for more than meetings with doctors, dentists and schools.
How I deal with caving in my creativity between the walls of what others can accept.
How I deal with an unloving husband, who is becoming more and more autistic and who forget what it is to love.

There are days I simply don't know.
Days that I can hardly face up to the next hour, even the next 5 minutes.

But one way or another time passes, and I find myself trying to reach the soul of a politician, trying to convey the need to make the necessary changes. I find myself motivating others with so much energy, that I'm amazed, because I thought there was none left.

There are two main things that keep me going.

My dreams, and my intentions to realise them. I wanted to start bagpiping. And I did.
I want smallpipes (little bagpipes) and I'm sure I'll get them.
I want to travel the world, to meet my online friends, to go to the places of my ancestors and be at their holy places.

I don´t know where this inner motivation comes from, but I know it´s strong, and I know the difference between me and some others is that I believe dreams can come true, whereas others just feel sorry they are not having what they want.

Having dreams makes me bigger than I am today, make me overcome today, make me be at a better place in the future.

And there´s something else that keeps me going.
The dark hours of the night, when all children are sleeping, and I´m able to experience the silence and the inner me.
I know there´s something strong in me. I´ve survived so much, even the death of two of my children. Some call it beingness presence awareness.

I was able to mourn their death and love others at the same time.
That inner strength is so reliable. It´s a pity I sometimes forget it´s there when the time goes by too quick and I have no time for those quiet dark hours, no time to let go of unwanted and unnecessary emotions.

For those who want to learn these strengths the The Sedona Method provides an easy method.

The method starts by explaining that we are not the emotions we experience, we feel them. And that's it. And because we feel them and we're not completely one with them, we can let them go.
Like a child can let go of the loud crying when he bumbs his head and there's no one around to give attention, like a child lets go of the pain after mom kisses the bruise.

One of the official 24 teachers of The Secret is Hale Dwoskin.
People who attend his retreats feel the power that lives inside them.
They even experience the law of attraction: the lack of negative emotions makes place for good things to happen.

He offers a way to reach the same strengths that keep me going.

Online you can read where to find a course to learn the Sedona Method.
When you subscribe to the newsletter you'll receive a free DVD, CD or MP3.
I can tell you, when you doubt your ability to change your life, you'll get motivated to do so.
The Sedona Method is very easy to learn.

Some people are amazed that letting go of unwanted emotions makes them feel so at peace.
That´s because concepts and attitudes like pride and ego are part of the whole burden of unwanted baggage of life.
Many people are raised with the idea that pride is important. But all what it does is create a border between themselves and others.

Many of you have heart about "the Secret".

More recently, Eckhart Tolle adressed the same subject deeper wit: "A New Earth".

The Sedona method can be better understood with this new book.
One could say: A New Earth meets The Secret, because they both make clear that letting go of unwanted emotions opens a person up for better and more fullfilling experiences.

Alcohol rehab

april 25 2008

This evening I saw an interesting program about an alcohol rehab.
They were supposed to give group therapy, but in fact it was a combination of individual and group therapy and unsupervised time.

I've worked a while at an alcohol rehab facility and I was amazed by the way these people were treated, and by the fact that there was no one at the facility to deal with the people for long times on end.
The program gave me the idea that the therapist thought himself to be more important than his client. And I certainly didn't like the game he was playing.
Making a client dependent and handing out compliments when this dependence is the center of the talk is certainly not my way of dealing with clients. Ugh!

At Cliffside Malibu they also have an alcohol rehab.
I think that should be brought on TV. I guess it won't, because they respect the privacy of their clients far too much.
They offer a program that is thought through well, based on scientific research and experience, and puts the client in the centre of attention.

Well worth to look into when you need assistance and support for any addiction.

Anorexia law in France

april 16 2008

France has enabled taking legal action against all who stimulate anorexia.
Motivating people to slim too far will lead to imprisonment for 2 years or a fine of
30.000 euro/47,328.24 USD.

France is the first country with a law like this.
Minister of Health Roselyne Bachelot has told the media she will fight to get this law accepted by the European Union.

The anorexia-law is a consequence of the death of a Brasilian model who died of anorexia in 2006.
It's aimed mainly against the pro-anorexia websites and sites giving advice to loose too much weight, thus endangering the health of young girls and women.

Many don't know that unhealthy eating habits not only lead to a thin body, but also harm the organs.
Reproduction, brainfunction and bonedensity for example, will be adversely influenced with consequences on the short and long run, even after someone has abandoned anorexia.

The French fashion industry is taking steps to use models that have a healthier look.

ASD, melatonin and sleep

april 9 2008

Many children with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD have problems sleeping.
Most of them can't find enough relaxation to fall asleep.

Traditional sleeping assistants, like hot milk, a lavender pillow and such, don't help.
Interesting is that also the firm sleeping medication a doctor can prescribe often is of no use at all.

When I first was told melatonin would do the trick, I smiled politely, started reading and then tried it.

It works!!

We give melatonin about one hour before we want the child to fall asleep.

All it does is tell the brain it's time to sleep. It gives a certain relaxation, so when a child lies down and relaxes it falls asleep.
It's not a sleepingbomb.
When a child stays behind the computer, or is bussy watching a stressfull movie it doesn't do anything.

Melatonin can be bought at the pharmacy, but the pills can also be bought on internet and many other shops.

Be careful!
You want to pay for the melatonin, not for chalk or any other carrier stuff. So get the melatonin as pure as possible.

ill

april 3 2008

5 kids with the flu...and me.

I can't believe I was able to attent the meeting at school and write about it...

We feel so sick. Ugh!

And the internetconnection is crap too.

So when you're waiting for a visit, or a discussion, like Stan... you'll just have to wait untill I feel better.

That's life...eh..the flu!

No time for being ill.

april 1 2008

Yesterday evening I went to bed rather early, because I didn't feel well.

I woke up worst. Ugh!!!

I'm a diabetic and my glucose was far too high, even after taking my meds.
So there's an infection...somewhere.

These are the bad days in a large family.

I have to get better before tomorrow morning, because we have a meeting at the school of my autistic son, a meeting I confirmed yesterday.

The meeting is very important, because some decisions will be made about my son, and us.
One of the two we meet is a person who has been against us all the time.
He thinks autism is a result of bad upbringing, and he wants to bring us to court for not making our son to go to that school.

So I need to be strong and firm and not distracted by a bloated belly, nausea and a headache.

Keep your fingers crossed!

medical ID jewelry

march 26 2008

For Margreth who asked me about Medical ID bracelets, pendants and such.
Your URL isn't connecting, so I'll post the information here.

You can find medical id jewelry at Jewel Elegance.

There are bracelets available in gold and other materials, like silver and stainless steel. But also pendants, watches, moneyclips, plates, etc.

For a child I'd probably choose an item with a red printed logo on it, so it attracts attention.

All medical ID jewelry is on sale at the moment, with free shipping on items over $75.
You can choose to engrave the item, so when it arrives it can be used immediately.

I've looked around at the site amd I've found some wonderful other jewelry. Lovely celtic items for instance.

When you need to know more, please contact me with the right url.

Greetings!

popcorn machines

march 24 2008

A friend went with her children to a museum where they had a large exposition about popcorn machines.

A while ago I blogged about Stargate Cinema where they sold theatre chairs and other theatre items, so I thought to go and have a look there to see if popcorn machines were sold there.
Yes!

I had a good look through the items and I have to say, it´s really interesting to see all the different machines.

So when my friend came back I had a close look at the museum leaflets... It feels like they have seen the same variety Stargate Cinema has on offer... Oops!

Ofcourse I didn´t say anything.
After eating a lot of chocolates they all went home.

I hope I haven´t given them the flue.

CVTY-HealthInsurance.com

march 9 2008

Sometimes I feel like I'm working at a helpdesk.

OK. A special for a friend in Coventry who needs health insurance.

She doesn't have group health insurance anymore now she has started her own practice.

I asked her to write down all she wants from a health insurance plan.
Among her wishes were free mammograms and vision ccoverage. And ofcourse the lowest rate for the best benefits.

I adviced her to get information about CoventryOne.
This coverage is ideal for self-employed individuals, part-time employees, students, singles and families.
It;s provided by CVTY-HealthInsurance.com® an authorized independent agent of Coventry Health Care, Inc. (Coventry).

Ofcourse I can't decide which plan she has to take. That's her own decision.
But I could tell her that she can choose from various plans, including deductible plans ranging from $500 to $10,000.

It's best to get in contact with one of the agents. They are expereinced and can give good advice.

So she did.

We also found out that the site provides important information.
One can easily friend the locations of physicians, hospitals and even pharmacies and other services.

I'm happy I was able to help her out.

shortage of fruit again?

march 9 2008

So many trees are blossoming a bit.
It's such a delight for the eye.

I'm worried though.
Bad weather is forecasted, both wind and rain, and it might result in loss of blossoms.
That way the harvest of fruit will be small again.
So many people will again have to rely on a supplements and antioxidant every day.

Biotivia is having a sale again with lower prices and free Bonus bottles of Biofore and Transmax.

Some people don't mind using pills, powders and drops, but I so love to give my children fresh fruit every day.
I want them to know that nature provides all they need.

AeroCare

march 8 2008

One part of the final exams of my boys is writing an extensive paper on the subject of their choice.
For one of my boys choosing a subject was no problem at all: he wants to be part of an air ambulance team.

A few years ago, to be precise: at august 24 2006 he heard about the first revenue air ambulance flight from Scottsdale, ans since then he knows for sure that he will be either an air ambulance pilot or a nurse.
Last month he decided that he will opt for becoming an air ambulance pilot.

The AeroCare air ambulance staff is still his inspiration.

The AeroCare Air Ambulance Service provides services throughout the world.
They're available 24 hours a day for emergency and and non-emergency ambulance services.

AeroCare uses the most advanced systems of patient care.
Which means that AeroCars is able to provide and ICU environment with all necessary equipment to bring the patient high quality care on long and short distances.
They experience enables the most cost effective help.
All members of the flight crew, medical team and management team are well trained professionals, so no time is lost where each minute counts.
They're specialists in transporting the most critically ill patients.
Some of the aircrafts have enough space for the patient, a medical team and three family members. Which means that far more can be gained from air transport than time alone.

AeroCare Air Ambulance Service is completely equiped to save lives.

Our philosophy is to provide out patients with the highest level of aero medical care including medivac services at the most cost effective price.
This commitment to quality and cost effectiveness is delivered by combining the talents of our highly trained medical flight crews, our safety and service oriented Flight Crews, and a quality driven management team dedicated to treating each of our patients as if they were members of our own family. he

Kaiser Permanente health insurance quotes

march 5 2008

Just a few minutes ago I had the most interesting online discussion with a friend.
She lives in California.

We started talking about our children with ADHD.
Here Concerta and Strattera aren't covered, and we talked about how I might find ways to solve that problem.
It's difficult because we have a kind of group insurance at the work of the father of the children. That's less expensive when one doesn't need anything special.

When my friend, her family and her mother moved and needed health insurance in California, she applied for Kaiser Permanente health insurance quotes.

In California medical underwriting is required for individual health plans, and those with pre-existing health conditions may be denied coverage.
That happened to her mother, who was dealing with some medical problems.
Kaiser Quotes adviced to ask her employer for any group insurance. She worked well above the requested 20 hours per week, and it turned out there were no other problems to be admitted to group insurance.

My friend asked advice about health care plans to cover the costs of maternity care.
She got very good recommendations. She was able to choose between a deductible plan and a copayment plan.

Now everyone of her family is insured for affordable rates and fitting their needs.
They are very well informed about their insurances, so they won't have to deal with unexpected problems.
You can get the same information on the site. Dowload the pdf files, ask a quote, or call the information number.

Finding an insurance that fits

March 4 2008

It's time to ask my doc for another recipe for my medication.

It's a rather long list:
diabetic medication,
asthma medication,
allergy medication,
and medication for an amino-acid metabolic disorder.
No coverage for the last ones.
Because one can get the lower dosages over the counter, the insurance won't pay.
Which is nuts.
I have to go to the pharmacy to get special tablets. When I would use over the counter tablets it would mean I had to take about 180 extra tablets a day!!!
And I can't do without them. My own body would intoxicate my blood, like a kidney patient.

I've looked around for another health insurance.
Sometimes it's better to take another health care plan.

Peoples Health Insurance, LLC offers great advice, a friend told me, so I had a look at their site.
My friend is very happy with her Florida individual health insurance.

She changed insurances after comparing a lot of them.
When her husband died, she found out he had insured them for far too much money and even for services they'll never needed.

So she made a list of which items she wanted to be covered rightaway and in the future.
And she had a good thought about how much she wanted to spend.

Before she applied for a new insurance plan, she went through her files with her doctor.
That was good good decision.
Often she went together with her husband and sthey found papers which were not about her but about her husband, and they would certainly have given the wrong impression when a stranger might have thought they were hers.

Then she applied for free quotes.
A licensed agent from Peoples Health Insurance, LLC helped her on the phone in such a nice way. He told her a lot of things she didn't know, and it resulted in a clear choice for a policy that fits her precisely.
She's not paying a dollar too much, but she has all her items of her list covered.

Her son is self employed and was so impressed by what he heard, that he now has found a more affordable solution for his health insurance needs too.
He wasn't insured and already he had been confronted with the enormous bills after a simple accident.
That's history now.

I think it's a wise decision to deal with the fully trained and certified agents of
Peoples Health Insurance, LLC, instead of dealing with a referral system. It's far more easy that way to find a health care plan that fits the lifestyle and needs.

wheelchair accessible vans

february 29 2008

I don't know if I have blogged about this. Maybe not.
The last months I have problems walking.

I guess I have a whiplass in my leg combined with a knee injury.
Last week I had to use the busses and I really had a hard time stepping in and out.
There are a few busses that can lower the steps, but most of them can't.
So I came home every day with such a lot of pain. I can't describe.

My friend Mandy made fun of me, in a nice way.
She's experienced my problems first hand before she landed in a wheelchair.
Because she can't stand on her feet anymore she can call for wheelchair accessible vans.

They're the best solution for her mobility needs.
She likes the ones with a floor that moves down and a ceiling that is as high as possible.
She can drive in them herself.

But she likes the other vans that MobilityWorks provides too, even though she doesn't like the lifts some have. They're perfectly safe, but she's afraid of heights.

MobilityWorks also makes customised vans, which enables a friend to visit her family. She's even worse handicapped, but that special van enables her to bridge the distances between family and other locations. So she can spend her time much more the way she wants.

Mandy offered to rent a van for me, so I could have my say at the school that promised a place for my autistic son. Well, I'd better stay at home. LOL!
My insurance won't pay for that anyway, I'm just dealing with a temporary problem, but most insurances provide support for handicap accessible vans for those who need transport on a regular basis.

reading magnifiers

february 18 2008

When I was 4 I got my first glasses, when I was 48 I got reading glasses.
Now my eyesight is fluctuating so much, I sometimes need an aid. Like when I need to put a threat in the sowing machine.

I have a magnifier at a fixed place, and I use it regularly.
I don't like it however, because I need to hold it or ask someone else to hold it.

A friend told me there are many more reading magnifiers than I thought.
I knew about the table magnifier, and hoped there would be magnifying glasses, and there are.

So that takes away the worry quite a bit.
I can't fight my eyes going bad, but I can fight not seeing things.
