Nice morning shopping

may 9 2008

I called the dentist early in the morning.
Couldn't get an appointment sooner than next friday!!!!
All I can do now is hope that the rest of the molar won't break off.

Then my oldest and I went to the shopping centre to find him new glasses.
He tried out a lot and ended with one of 299 euro.

So when the woman who helped us left for a moment I told him that he should have another look, as 299 euro is a lot.

When she came back he asked for another look al models that looked the same.
She smiled and told him that she also thought that these glasses were far too expensive.

She handed him a variation on one he already tried, but didn't like.
Now the rim wasn't black, but a nice colour of grey.
When he put it on his whole face seemed to change for the better.

After that we went windowshopping, bought some bread we never have bought before, tasted cheese in a shop and bought a piece, and went home.

We had such a good time!

Save on your phone cards

april 6 2008

With so many kids going the route of proper puberty, phone cards are a regular item of dispute.

We have the rule that with proper use we pay half, with improper use we pay nothing.

They all can get one card a month, because we have no normal family telephone anymore.
That's far cheaper than kids hanging on the phone all evening and dad paying the bill.

Today it was the day to renew the cards.
I don't know how we landed on the subject, but suddenly we were reviewing our options, and decided to skip the normal route of the local store, buying the cards and handing them out.

We went on internet and found Phone Cards Avenue, offering huge savings on calls over regular providers like AT&T.
They offer phone cards and calling cards for phonecalls all over the world, saving up to 80% on normal cards.

Ofcourse we had to explain a bit when we handed the cards out, but saving on calls means making far more calls for the same amount of money, and now two boys have a girl they want to call all day and night...LOL!

When I told a friend about it she said she already know this service, because her family in Indonesia uses the same phone cards for international calls.
Not only do they save a tremendous amount of money, but they often say that the sound quality of the calls is far better than they experience from normal providers.

At the site you can find a list with countries, country codes and the rate per minute. You have to add the amount of money some countries charge to make the connection, but you'll save a lot of money using the international cards of Phone Cards Avenue.

In case you have questions or in case you encounter a problem, you can always call customers service. Very friendly assistants are ready to help you out, without making you feel stupid. Life support like this is an added axtra that should be valued highly.

Buying a phonecard online is easy and fast.
The system guides you through the proces without any problem, and when I can do it, anyone can!

Oops, the shops are closed.

May 1 2008

Unexpected birthday celebrations.

We all have to deal with them. So do we.

This morning the girls were up and ready to go quite early for a vacationday.
They needed to go and find a present for a girl we know for a long time.

I´m not sure if I have to say she´s spoiled.
In a way she is, because her parents don´t refuse her a lot, don´t tell her enough what the limits of her behaviour are, and tell her that she´s far more intelligent than tests can give her credit for.

Whatever.
She´s going through a rough time, because she feels she´s different from others.
That´s what her parents wanted, and what she wanted.
But she found out that instead of being better and more intelligent, she´s not.
Which means she sees others as being self confident, and she isn´t confident of herself one little bit.

So no nice book or a bracelet for her birthday.
We intended to find her two nice, warm and soft pillows for her room, so she could feel comforted, quiet and at times throw them to the wall.

Well...there was one thing we completely forgot: the shops are closed.

So instead we have to resort to the bag with gifts that we bring with us when they are for sale.

So a tennisgame it will be.

I think those pillows would have been far better.

I value it very much when you comment and rate at the buzzfusewidget here.

He traded

april 30 2008

One of the boys had a great time today.

Yesterday evening he went with friends to the queensnight.
It's the night before queensday.
People prepare their stalls for the freemarket of queensday, some try out the beer (LOL!) and others go to concerts and parties.

He went to a concert and after that for a short time to a party.
He didn't like the party, so he came home early.

This morning he went to his friends early, but the concert they planned was deleted from their agendas as large clouds and a bit of rain seemed to announce bad weather.

In the afternoon we even had a bit of sun, and he disappeared to the market with only a few euros.

When he was 8 he took 5 slices of cake with him to the market and he came home with the distance driven car, a little policecar and a little ambulance. He even gave me one of the most ugly paintings we've ever seen in our lives. LOL! (He agrees now. I kept it all those years. In the attic, that is.)

Today he came home with two little dollshouses which are lamps.
One he bought, the other he couldn't afford.
He asked the woman to keep it aside for him and she promised not to sell it within the hour.

He bought some top diet pills, traded them for earrings and sold those so he had the money to buy the second house.

Isn't it amazing what he can do?

I don't have a camera available to show you the houses, but when I see them on internet, I'll show you.

The houses have a triangle base.
The back is for the light,
The two other sides have 3 little windows with shutters at the top.
One side has two large windows downstairs. With shutters too.
And one side has a door downstairs.
Around it grass with flowers.

The houses look like tudorhouses.

They're marvellous.

And so is he!!

I'm collecting magnifiers now

april 20 2008

A couple of years ago I helped a friend built her collection of magnifiers.
She's living in another country now.
She's not forgotten, but her collection was.

Untill I had a short talk with the doctor's wife last week and the subject popped up.
And since then it hasn't left my mind.

I have a magnifier beside the computer. Nothing special, just a very large one.

"But I can do with a little one", I thought yesterday.
That way I can leave my reading glasses at home.

Ofcourse I can buy those glasses with normal and reading options in one. But I don't like them at all. I need a wide field of vision without a disturbance.

A long time ago I'd seen a magnifier with a chain, so I thought it to be a good idea to look for one at one of those second hand sites.

Lucky me found a fancy one, with strass stones at the outer rim... for almost nothing.
I mailed the woman, and she didn't want to wait for higher bidders, so it's send to me.

I feel so very lucky!!

I know there are many special magnifiers.
I'm sure I'll be needing one of those table items in the future.

But right now I'm looking around for little pieces of art.

This collection fits in nicely with my fountainpen collection.
So when you have something at the attick and you're ready to throw it away. DON'T!
Give it another life.

At least 70 million bottles of contaminated Italian wine

april 5 2008

We're not yet recovered from the shock that Italian Mozzarella contained dioxins from illegal waste burning near Naples.

Today Magazine L'Espresso revealed a new scandal:

Cheap wine containing acid, manure and fertiliser.
At least 70 million bottles are turned into dirt.

Agriculture Minister Paolo De Castro pleaded not to regard this as a problem of the entire wine producing industry.
According to him the evildoers were already known by the police.

An Agriculture Ministry spokeswoman tried to calm the nerves by assuring none of the bottles were sold to other countries.

It's always interesting to hear that the police already was aware of organised crime adding unwanted elements to wine.

I guess they didn't need glasses to detect the 70 million bottles.

This is another Italian scandal added to the long list.

CAT 6 products

april 4 2008

These last weeks the internetconnection is like a flashing light.
It's infuriating when I have to look up things, because in the middle of the search everything stops.

So I write my entries offline and paste them in my blog, hoping the connection won't be gone before everything is uploaded.

Ofcourse I started to ask around.

First I got all sorts of interesting advise.
I needed a new modem, I'd better renew the CAT6 products, I'd better install a new keyboard, etc etc.

Some things mentioned didn't have anything to do with the internetconnection.

As everyone in the house here has the same problems I asked a neighbour.
He had the same problem.
And then my son mentioned friends at the other side of town having the same problems.

So I knew it wasn't our problem.

I couldn't complain to the provider...not by email.
But I found an emailadress from a communications manager.

The computer at the library worked perfect.

So did the mail.... even before I was home the connection was a lot better!

Yes!!!!

medical ID jewelry

march 26 2008

For Margreth who asked me about Medical ID bracelets, pendants and such.
Your URL isn't connecting, so I'll post the information here.

You can find medical id jewelry at Jewel Elegance.

There are bracelets available in gold and other materials, like silver and stainless steel. But also pendants, watches, moneyclips, plates, etc.

For a child I'd probably choose an item with a red printed logo on it, so it attracts attention.

All medical ID jewelry is on sale at the moment, with free shipping on items over $75.
You can choose to engrave the item, so when it arrives it can be used immediately.

I've looked around at the site amd I've found some wonderful other jewelry. Lovely celtic items for instance.

When you need to know more, please contact me with the right url.

Greetings!

Work Boots

march 25 2008

One of my sons has a good job. But the work is hard.
I told him he needed good work boots, but untill today he refused to buy them.

"So what happened today", you might ask.

One of his coworkers dropped some very heavy items on his feet and broke three toes.

Ofcourse I didn't say anything.
I'm not the kind of "I told you that" kind of mother.

I just sat down and waited.

After about half an hour he asked me where he could buy work boots.
"But they have to look good."

Well, I only know a place where they look better and best: Work Boots USA.

popcorn machines

march 24 2008

A friend went with her children to a museum where they had a large exposition about popcorn machines.

A while ago I blogged about Stargate Cinema where they sold theatre chairs and other theatre items, so I thought to go and have a look there to see if popcorn machines were sold there.
Yes!

I had a good look through the items and I have to say, it´s really interesting to see all the different machines.

So when my friend came back I had a close look at the museum leaflets... It feels like they have seen the same variety Stargate Cinema has on offer... Oops!

Ofcourse I didn´t say anything.
After eating a lot of chocolates they all went home.

I hope I haven´t given them the flue.

Travel supplies

march 24 2008

This is one of these days the phone isn't silent.
Calls from kids that want to play with the girls, the girlsfriend of one of the boys and some people who want advice or want something we have or are supposed to have.

Someone knew one of my sons went to england last week and called to ask for travel supplies.
She needed luggage locks, shoe bags, luggage tags, straps and a lot more.

She was reading a list out loud and I felt more and more like she thought my son had been an a 3 month expedition to the Mount Everest instead of a three day trip to London.

It was such an awkward feeling someone I see about once a year not came with a grocery list of needed travelequipment.
She didn't even give me a chance to stop her halfway her list. Ugh!

I'm not sure how her mood was when she put the phone on the hook.

Ofcourse I'd told her kindly that we had none of the items she mentioned and that she can buy them online at Tamperseal. They even offer free shipping in the USA.

What an odd feeling this phone-call was!

Blanco sinks online

march 24 2008

Second easterday.

Most furniture. light and sanitary shops are open.
I wished we would go out and have a look around.

I so long for new flooring in the livingroom and new faucets and sinks.

Pity though most of us are ill.

So I had a look at Blanco sinks.
They're beautiful!

We're living in a rented house, so we have to ask permission, and it's only granted when the old stuff is put in after we leave.

Isn't it a pity?

The neighbouring woman made a nice storageplace under the stairs. We have it too.
We never spend money on making a door there, she did. A lot!

Last week I was able to have a look at the renovated house and they have closed the entrance to the storage room under the stairs again.

I expect the new people opening it up again.

What a waste of money!!

It's time for Seiko

march 19 2008

Can you imagine...
I was surfing around a bit and suddenly I saw a huge photo of my first boyfriend.
What a shock!

He still had the same features I adored and I fell in love with.

He also was wearing the same watch he got from his grandfather when he graduated: a Seiko.
Still beautiful.

It caught the attention of my son too, and he asked me whether I would have given him another watch.

Yes, I would.

Ofcourse it would have been a Seiko Watch, but another one. A Two Tone Kinetic Arctura Chronograph Silver Dial SNL012.

In his job, he runs a worldwide company, time is money, and his watch should be more of a feature.
The silver dial with gold tone hands reflects wealth, and also signals that time is of utmost importance.
The stainless steel case and bracelet are very comfortable to wear and because it runs by the power of motion it needs no maintenance, which is reflected in the 3 years original manufacturer warranty.

He's a proud father of very sportive children and he can put the stopwatch to great use. It measures up to 45 minutes in 1/5 second increments.
No need to fear water. The Seiko time piece is water resistant to 100M.

I love this watch. It reflects power, elegance and a consciousness of time.
And I'm sure it would last for generations to come.

Pity he's still married.

It's your wallet

march 14 2008

Sometimes shops gain so much when they sell a product, sometimes 40% or more of the price is their benefit.

Especially with furniture that means a tremendous amount of money.

So why not try and save it, or use it to buy something else?

directbuy enables you to buy almost everything for your home direct from brand-name manufacturers at wholesale prices, plus shipping and handling. They have a chain of 700 manufacturers in the USA and 500 in Canada which are part of this concept.

You have to become a member, but that isn't a problem at all, because you still save a lot of money.
The membership offers you access to the members-only showroom and enables you to buy at wholesale prices.

Rising sales of cars

march 14 2008

In Europe the sales of cars are still rising.
9% increase the figures show for the month of february 2008 alone, that's 1,2 million cars. Volkswagen and Peugeot were sold most.

Part of the increase is due to riding living standards in eastern europe.
Another increase is because of the rise of restrictions aiming to decrease pollution.
Cars with special features to bring down pollution might be more expensive, but the owners have to pay less taxes.

We still don't have a car here, and I don't expect us to have a car, unless we move to a place where we can't live without.

Digital Frames Direct for personal and coorporate gifts

march 12 2008

Remember I had such a bussy schedule this evening?
I tried to squeeze in as much as possible.

So I went to the birthday anyway.

It was rather silent there, so I asked the happy guy to tell me which presents he received today.

Appart from a few books, money, and some clothes and drawings from the children he showed me a digital photo frame.
I recognised the 10.4" Silver Save digital frame from Digital Frames Direct.
I kept my face straight, because the giver didn't mention she bought it in the sales, meaning she saved £20.

For those who don't know: Digital Frames Direct is the largest wholesaler of the UK, selling digital photo frames in different sizes.
Many people aren't aware Digital Frames Direct is behind the corporate frame gifts of for instance: Mercedes, Google, Chevron, Shell, Total, Orange, Vodafone, Angel Trains and many others. My dentist has ordered them too for each and every room.
They contain the logo and a message.

Right now Digital Frames Direct has some nice offers on the site.
Before you purchase you're informed well, so you can decide if the choosen item fits your requirements.
There is such a great variety of choice that it's understood you need some help.
Just mail or call and a friendly team is ready to listen to you and help you out.

Glass tiles and borders will make your house unique

march 12 2008

This morning I went through the storm to visit friends who have bought a very old house.
They needed some advice and invited me and a befriended architect to have a look.

The house has many old features and it was a delight to see all the borders, coloured tiles and stained windows.
A close look at the tiles vervealed that most of them are glass tiles.
The architect was looking rather serious. He was afraid the repair of the damages might cost a fortune.

But I've seen online that the Glass Tile Store not only has a tremendous choice of glass tiles but also of borders and marble rails and pencils.

We need to describe the building well and it's features and make a list of which damages requires what.

Looking at the site we decided for a few items that match with the other decorations, but are meant to be used daily. Like for instance a beautiful honey onyx sink.

We had quite some worries about the pewter borders. But while we were ordering we found them on the site too.
So it's well worth to look through everything.

The Glass Tile Store doesn't only provide material for renovation of old buildings.
Glass tiles and borders can add a very modern and even futuristic look to a house.
It breathes luxury when used in the right way.

Some people use glass tiles for kitchens, bathrooms and pools, but they can also be used for window decoration and to add features to walls.
Just use your creativity!

Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar watches

march 9 2008

This morning I took my watch and noticed it was silent.
After all these years it gave up on me.

I'm not terribly sad about it, so I won't need comforting mails. LOL!
In fact it might be a reason to buy one of the pocketwatches I've been looking at for ages.

The father of the kids had a really bad mood this morning.
So I sat down and started looking at the Patek Perpetual series.

I love the Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar watches.

One of the girls stood beside me and asked me which one I wanted most: one with a Hobnail Case or one with a Tonneau Shapped Case.
I said I didn't know yet, but I would soon, because women who get moody because they're driven too it, know quite well which one is most expensive.

He watched over our shoulder and said nothing.
My daughter said: Those are Essential Watches, you know.

I have to say, he did his utmost to try and be friendly. LOL!

shortage of fruit again?

march 9 2008

So many trees are blossoming a bit.
It's such a delight for the eye.

I'm worried though.
Bad weather is forecasted, both wind and rain, and it might result in loss of blossoms.
That way the harvest of fruit will be small again.
So many people will again have to rely on a supplements and antioxidant every day.

Biotivia is having a sale again with lower prices and free Bonus bottles of Biofore and Transmax.

Some people don't mind using pills, powders and drops, but I so love to give my children fresh fruit every day.
I want them to know that nature provides all they need.

BlindCentralOnline.com, blinds for every taste and lifestyle

march 8 2008

Now the renovation of the shopping centre has started, some shops have been moved and others even closed for a while.

Just now I promised a friend te help her choose some window blinds.

I was looking for Fabric Vertical Blinds on internet and found BlindCentralOnline.com.
The Bali vertical blinds are on offer, so I called my friend to come and we both had a good look.

There were so many beautiful blinds at the site that it was hard to choose.
We forgot we were online instead of a real shop, which is a good thing.

BlindCentralOnline.com. started in 1986 and since then they have built a huge expertise in blinds. And now they are a leading provider of blinds on internet.

Because my friend wanted to know some technical details, she contacted the firm and she was assisted in a very kind and friendly way.
It was clear that the woman knew everything about it.

They both agreed my friend would order a discount custom blind for the livingroom, and some bali blinds for the back room and the kitchen.

BlindCentralOnline.com offers blinds for every taste and lifestyle, and it's great one can match the colours in the room and the furniture with such beautiful blinds at the lowest prices.
